#LiberateMKE Campaign Survey Results!
Over the summer, the African American Roundtable (AART) and community partners surveyed over 1100 people as part of their #LiberateMKE Campaign. The goal was to not only survey the community in Milwaukee but to learn about what programs residents wanted money invested in and to organize residents around the City budget. Through this process, AART learned residents want City dollars invested in community-based violence prevention efforts that do not involve law enforcement like Violence Interrupter Programs. Community members also expressed the need for new infrastructures that meets people’s needs around mental health and trauma and sustainable jobs for young people ages 16-24. We also recommended in our survey that jobs for young people pay more and provide more professional development and affordable quality housing because we know that access to housing provides families with stability. The community knows the City budget must reflect their desires, so they continue to voice their desires through budget hearings and lobbying and await the final City budget for 2020 in November.
Please take a moment to review and share the LiberateMKE policy recommendations that address the communities’ needs at bit.ly/2l9W9F4.
